E.1: Dissemination planning and execution
The established networks between the project and other relevant LIFE and non-LIFE projects and the development of a dissemination pack are the goals of this action.
The networking of the project with similar projects in Cyprus and abroad will lead to the exchange and transfer of know-how on similar conservation efforts with the LIFE-KEDROS project. The networking will provide the project team with valuable knowledge and experience, regarding active conservation management approaches in forest habitats and effective ways of communicating with the general public.
Furthermore, the action focuses on designing and implementing information and awareness-raising activities for keeping the public continuously informed on the project's objectives and activities. Such activities are:
- Creation and establishment of notice boards at the communities neighbouring the boundaries of the targeted habitat.
- Promotion of the project through promotion materials and the creation of a film.
- Creation and continuous update of both a project's website and an account on social media.
- Creation and dissemination of printed materials (newsletter, press releases, articles and leaflets) for informing the general public on the project's activities.
- Organization of a rural workshop in the local communities near the habitat 9590* area and organization of a final info-day.
E.2: Technical dissemination
This action aims towards disseminating the scientific outcomes and the best practices adopted during the project's implementation for the sustainable management of the targeted habitat. This will be achieved through the following activities:
- Transfer of the project's outcomes to the scientific community through publications and presentations in scientific conferences.
- Publishing a technical guide (report) that summarizes the outcomes and best practices on cedar forest management, as these will result from the project's implementation (Actions A and C). Thus, the report will present the technical guidelines for the sustainable management and the long-term conservation of a narrow endemic habitat type in a limited area of occupancy, such as the habitat type 9590*.
- Establishment of the Stakeholder Committee, which will hold meetings during the project's implementation. The committee consists of experts on forest management (a representative from the project's beneficiaries and a representative from the Cyprus Association of Professional Foresters), as well as representatives from: policy implementers on Natura 2000 network (Department of Environment & Game and Fauna Service), the local authorities (communities of: Panagia, Tsakistra, Kampos, Mylikouri and Kykkos Monastery), NGO (Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus) and local SMEs. The committee aims to enhance public participation in conservation initiatives and to assist the project by providing the necessary support and commitment, as well as information, to overcome external, political, administrative, and management issues that may arise.
